Birdhouse

Here we are at the Birdhouse, where things are as quiet as a mouse.
Tweet, tweet, tweet; what a good place to put up your feet!
As the sun sets in the west; what a perfect place to rest.
As we sit here waiting for deer to cross the marshland, all we see is geese in the sand.
As I look out the loft at the beautiful site, I think I will return, I think I might.
A lovely cabin, so rustic & hidden...so party animals are forbidden!
Up in the loft you feel safe & sound...but be careful you don't fall down.
Sun rise, open your eyes and watch the beautiful birds fly by.
James, you must be very tall; you can tell by the pegs on the wall!
I'll remember this place, believe me! We were so kindly received & also we loved the place! Walking around the island, we noticed how special your place was and how lucky we were to have the opportunity to enjoy it. Thanks so much. After so many "big hotels" around the world, I decided that this was my "ideal" place to live momentarily. Thanks so much and good luck in your future projects.
Luc & Diane Montreal

What a beautiful place! The Birdhouse is a unique spot in a unique part of a unique island. Truly magical. The herons and harriers in the evening, the geese and wrens in the morning. Great hospitality-you seem to have figured out a way to bring people and nature together with flawless ease. Sea-Land adventures indeed! Thanks again. We'll be back.
Jeff & Lynn, NYC

Cam (age 8) says "I think the Birdhouse is really neat because it has so many windows!"

We spent our honeymoon here in this great little cabin and are so glade we did. We loved the Canada geese & goslings, nesting swallows, deer running by in the morning, fireflies at night, the peace and privacy. This was our first visit to Grand Manan and we'll be back!
John & Leanne, Bass Harbor, ME

We have had so much fun here! The marsh & bay are ever changing and spectacular. We've only been here three nights but have experienced rain, excellent clouds, wind, mist, and finally lots of sun. It is beautiful in every condition. Also, doesn't it smell great here? Grand Manan, I think, is the best smelling place on earth! The Birdhouse is unforgettable in so many ways; the beauty of the marsh, the ingenuity of the design. I love the tree trunk windows and the bed floating in the air. Thank you for adding beauty to the area. Bless you and what you have provided for the world-weary urban bloke like myself!
Don & Valerie, Montreal

Both last year and this year we hit a rainy weekend...and couldn't have been happier! Beautiful and relaxing...and this year a hummingbird and pheasant made appearances. . It truly has been like living in a tree house. Thanks again for some great memories.
Kim

Our stay was brief but our memories will be long lasting...We didn't know that such a wonderful place could exist right here in Canada. May God bless you and help you continue doing a wonderful job in protecting this little piece of Mother Earth. Merci.

Frog Hollow

Frog Hollow: a little piece of heaven on a remarkable & magical piece of land. Wonderful in the fog, trees dripping, handkerchief-like spiderwebs blanketing the ground like patchwork, edges vague & definition lacking. Clear nights; sinking fingernail moon makes way for a night sky densely pricked with stars. And two frogs calling in the hollow! A better porch for morning coffee will be hard to find-what a great rock.
Irene & Rica

Frog's Hollow is just the right size for two. We loved the quiet cabin in the pines! Clean, neat & cozy.
Margaret & Jim, Brighton ON

Jumping from tenting to the Frog Hollow; that is the perfect move. A great tiny house in the bush; a "warmful" place we will remember
Carolle & Andre Bic, Quebec

Great cabin, great price, wonderful environment, and beautifully quite and private. A must for future visits to Grand Manan
Jennifer & Patrick

Combed the island high & low, ended up at little Frog Hollow.
Contained & quaint is the little hut, the perfect place to hang your butt.
Kitchen, living room, bedroom & potty, everything you need to be comfy and naughty.
Forget the Hilton, Sheraton or Hyatt,
Stay at the Hollow, enjoy peace & quiet!

A refreshing change of pace. You will benefit from word of mouth by this couple. I am in awe at how peaceful and safe I feel here. I will sleep soundly listening to the water flowing in the frog pond. Thanks for a little piece of heaven.
Roy & Marion

I adored my 6 days of oneself space. It's a poet's cabin; it's part of the Grand Manan experience. Coup de Coeur for Southwest Head area. Enjoyed watching rising tides on the private beach, searching for rock. I wish I'd stayed longer.

The Barn

I had a great time Soooo relaxing. The whale watching was an experience never to forget and we appreciate your attempts to rescue Mia's hat! By the way, the sea food chowder on the boat was delicious. I could live in the Barn 24/7!
Melissa, Fredericton NB

My husband Anthony and I loved your tour and our stay in The Barn was the final touch to our first wonderful experience on Grand Manan - and not our last!
Michelle & Anthony, Fredericton NB

Wow! I feel like I'm part of an awesome family. It's wonderful watching your "project" grow so organically. The island has felt like home to me for years, now even mores so. Keep the faith! "We travel the Milky Way together, trees & men" John Muir. You've not seen the last of me (us).
Irene & Rica

We had a wonderful stay in your cabin hideaway ("The Barn"). It's nice to feel at home even when travelling. It's unfortunate we cannot stay the whole summer. Good luck with your business. It's a great place. Thank you for the hospitality,
Holly, Lisa, & Beth, PEI

What an absolutely wonderful creative piece of land - you are an inspiration to the rest of us who would like to one day live this lifestyle. And the Barn was perfect!

Larch Grove

We stayed here for almost a month. It was comfortable, wonderful home and a functional research station! The only reason we are leaving is large, twirling winds to the south! They don't get these here......hummmmm.
Thanks,
Ann & Bill, Wilmington NC

I'm so glad there are some folks left on this land who love it enough to make the kind of commitment you have made. Our environment is so precious and there are so few, who care. Maybe your work will not go unnoticed. Keep up your good work. We really enjoyed our visit and your hospitality. What can I say about "D'Sonoqua" and the whales? Once in a lifetime. Hope you can come by and see us.
Howard & Myrle, Chapel Hill NC

Thank you for very peaceful, beautiful energies. TaiChi feels so good here.... Enjoy life, life enjoys you. A truly beautiful gift for Sylvie and us.
Antoine, Francois, & Eselyne, Fredericton NB

We enjoyed Larch with its unique touches, and especially Castalia Marsh. For amateur naturalists, it is one of the best spots on the island. We felt right at home here and hope to return some day.
Pat & Gary & Florence

Thank you so much for your hospitality at this beautiful place. We thoroughly enjoyed or week here and only wish we could stay longer. The house accommodated our large group of 7 (with 4 children) very comfortably. We look forward to visiting again next year Thanks again for everything.
Laela, Carlo, Luis, Alex, Marina, Rosa & Luca

Great accommodations for our crowd, 4 adults, 6 kids. We all loved the island. Hiked the trails at Dark Harbour, went to Swallowtail Lighthouse, watched fishermen working their weir. Heading off this morning for whale watching with great expectations (after watching your great videos). Arrived in rain but weather has been perfect for 2 days. Our return trip is already being planned. I loved this cottage. It's awesome. It's the best cottage I've ever been to. I loved the fish; they're beautiful. My favorite one is the one with orange spots. We are going to go to the ocean to go whalewatching. I'm very excited I hope the next time I come to Grand Manan I can stay here or one of the other cottages. I bet they're really nice too Bye!
Rachel & Dad

We found the Larch Grove to be comfortable, cozy, well appointed, clean and nicely situated in the forest. The large windows give the feelings of being outdoors even when inside. We commend you for your efforts to create a pleasant place to stay with as little disturbance to the natural environment as possible. We hiked and observed nature, natural features and wildlife on and around the island each day. Of course, the highlight of the week was our trip on the D'Sonoqua on Tuesday. The weather was beautiful, the corn and fish chowders were outstanding and the right whales were active. We are anxious to see our pictures. They should be great.
Jack and Sally, Harrisburg, PA

Lookout

It's dawn- sky brilliant red when a deer and her fawn step on to Castalia Marsh. A great egret lands at the edge of the long pond, stopping for a few days on his journey south. He's at the most northern point his species gets; he visited two years ago this time while we stayed at Birdhouse. Using binoculars I spy a great blue heron gobbling fish he's caught. Small boats tend weirs in front of us, busy most mornings and afternoons. Stepping off the gravel path into Lookout, be prepared to be awestruck by the cathedral ceiling and natural beauty showing through glass on four sides of the pentagonal building. Slip out through the glass doors to the deck and get closer to marsh life and harbour. It's great knowing that while living here, we are symbiotically living with nature, not destroying her.
I'm reminded of a quotation from Ralph Waldo Emerson "The time to be happy is now. The place to be happy is here."
There is another line. "The way to be happy is to make others so"
Thank you Captain James for all your efforts in fashioning this beautiful paradise and allowing us to share the dream.
Eleanor Linberg, Schenectady NY
Nature as it should be!! Arrived here at 5:30 pm and our first sighting was the "Great Egret" he has been with us ever since. Making it from the 11th to the 17th of September. We've also seen a Bat, Eagle, Woodpecker, Marsh Hawk, and many varieties of small birds and a Great Blue Heron. Just beautiful! We have had such a peaceful time here.
Thanks
Russ and Donna Morrow

Birch Yurt

Thanks so much for a wonderful weekend. The birch yurt is so open and clean it feels practically like it's outside! We had a great time hiking around, and just relaxing in such a unique space.
Kim and Evan Summers

How quaint! I just love the look of the place. The door is really a piece of art. And the amount of light that comes in really makes the Yurt feel like a huge tent, but with all the commodities of a cabin. Our family really enjoyed staying on this interesting piece of land in such an interesting cabin.
